Show Notes

Two new European standards provide a shared evidence base for designing products, services and requirements that better reflect children’s needs.

PD CEN/TR 18296-1:2026 and PD CEN/TS 18296-2:2026 bring together harmonized European data on children’s body sizes and physical strength, alongside guidance on applying it in design.

The standards help designers, manufacturers, regulators and standards developers take account of children’s size, strength and capabilities - supporting child safety, accessibility and human-centred design.

In this episode, Matthew speaks with Levent Caglar and Alice Bullas, two experts and standards-makers involved in developing the standards. They discuss why the standards matter, what the data tell us, and how it can help create better-designed products and environments for children.
